The 2022 Mendel Genetics transformed Brno into the global epicentre of genetics and our intention is to repeat this peasfull event in five-year cycles. Over three days, the city cultivated an extraordinary assembly of brilliance, led by a trio of Nobel Prize laureates: Ada Yonath, Sir Paul Nurse, and Thomas Cech. Their insights didn’t just fill the halls; they offered a glimpse into the very building blocks of life, proving that scientific excellence is a trait we all share.

The conference featured specialised sections on human genetics, plant genetics, emerging technologies, genetics and society, and animal, bacterial, and viral genetics. This intellectual exchange was further amplified by more than 60 posters from across the globe.

The scientific program was cross-bred with cultural experiences that only Brno can offer. Science met faith and culture with the concert held within the historic walls of the Augustinian Abbey—the very soil where Mendel’s journey (and his famous peas) first took root—the atmosphere was one of profound inspiration and tribute.

Following the scientific program, the Mendel Festival connected the world of research with the general public, celebrating the father of genetics through a blend of hands on science, music, and community events. It was a perfectly sequenced celebration that continues to shape modern science. As we look toward the future, it is clear that the seeds planted in 2022 have grown into a legacy.

Get ready for another world-class experience. We look forward to welcoming the global community back to Brno to continue Mendel’s legacy.
